I am the GREATEST!
I attended a fabulous Black History month musical at my
son’s school. The music was great and the dancing as well. But there was one
moment that really reached me. The music teacher paused for a moment and he
said he wanted us to listen to this person. He said, I want you to figure out
who it is. I listened, and this person was sharing that he was “Cassius Clay
and he is the best, the greatest…” and I said, this must be Mohammad Ali (before he changed his name).
He (Cassius Clay) went on and on and ON about how great he
was and that no one was going to beat him. The teacher stopped it as Cassius
Clay went on and on about himself. The music teacher shared that Muhammad Ali
had confidence and that the children could do anything that they wanted to do
with a little confidence. He had the confidence of greatness before he KNEW that he was.
I believe that even as adults, we need encouragement and
confidence to reach out goals and not be so concerned about what others think
of us. Cassius Clay may have been considered arrogant, however, he used this to
build his confidence and to give himself encouragement that despite what others
thought or said, he knew that he could accomplish his goals.
Are you more concerned about what others think about you or
are you concerned about your goals, your passion, and your purpose in life? At
some point we should focus on what is important. What is it that is important
to you? Are you here on earth to gain the acceptance of people, friends, and
family or are you here for a greater purpose? I am not here for your
acceptance. I have purpose, which changes, but I have a purpose to fulfill and I will do my best to attain it.
Muhammad Ali said it best… “ I believe that we are going to
be judged; God is watching me; God
doesn’t praise me because I beat Joe Frazier, He wants to know how we treat
each other; How do we help each other; I am going to dedicate my life to using
my name and popularity to helping charities, helping people, uniting people;
people [bombing] each other because of religious beliefs, we need somebody in
the world to help make peace so when I die if there is a heaven, I want to see
it”.. I guess he was not so arrogant, but really wanted to exude confidence
knowing that God was the true judge and jury, not man.
Greatness also requires a sense of responsibility. Muhammad
Ali knew that he had a responsibility to his community to helping others and
ultimately to God.
Matthew 23:11 The greatest among you will be your servant~
I AM the Greatest! Maybe not to me, maybe not to you, but to
the One who counts because despite all of my issues and idiosyncrasies, I am
HIS child made for Greatness! Can you handle it?
I can do ALL things through
CHRIST who strengthens me….Philippians 4:13
